Bourbon Whiskey

Bourbon whiskey is an iconic American spirit, deeply rooted in the country's history and renowned for its rich, smooth, and complex character. By law, bourbon must be produced in the United States, made from a grain mash that is at least 51% corn, which contributes to its characteristic sweetness. The remaining mashbill typically includes a combination of barley, rye, or wheat, giving each bourbon its unique flavor profile. Bourbon is distilled to no more than 160 proof (80% alcohol by volume) and entered into the barrel for aging at no more than 125 proof. It must be aged in new, charred oak barrels, which impart deep amber color, as well as flavors of vanilla, caramel, and oak.

The aging process is a critical component of bourbon's flavor development, with the spirit drawing its complexity from the fluctuations in temperature and humidity of its aging environment, usually requiring a minimum of two years to be legally recognized as straight bourbon. However, many premium bourbons are aged much longer, often between 4 to 12 years or more, to achieve a more refined and intricate taste. Bourbon can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or as a base for classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned and the Mint Julep. Its versatility and depth of flavor make it a favorite among whiskey enthusiasts, embodying the spirit of American craftsmanship and tradition.
